Putting can be boring to some and fun to others. For me, putting is enjoyable and a strength of my game.
When I used to play fulltime, I would spend hours on the putting green working on my technique, lag putting, and short putting. This would give me confidence for when I went out to play.
Reading greens is critical because it tells you where you need to aim the ball and what speed you need to hit your putt. I find this quite easy, but it takes a creative and clear mind to read the greens well.
Impact is a very important part of successful putting. My SAM Puttlab machine is great in helping us see what your path is and where you are hitting the ball and many other aspects of your putting game but for the moment, here is a drill to help you work on your impact position.
Aim your putter to your desired target and then put a ball on the heel of your putter and on the toe of your putter as per the image below. From there, hit your putt as you normally would
If your impact position is square, both of the golf balls will travel in a straight line and at the same speed. If you hit the ball with either the toe or heel of the putter first you will notice that one of the golf balls will travel further than the other, which means that your putter was not square.
This drill will obviously help you with your impact but also your tempo.
