I still feel that the game of golf is the hardest because we have to play a game with various changes in the environment, the condition of the course, and we have to play a vast array of shots that we have to play inside a certain playing field.
We have to play in the heat, cold, rain, wind, frost, etc, which change the conditions of the course which then require a different style of shots.
We then have to deal with a maximum of fourteen clubs to dictate the length and flight in the shot we want to play. Each club is created for its own unique purpose.
Once this is all understood, we then need to create a technique that helps us play to the level of golf that we are satisfied with.
Each person has their own style of swing, but in the end, if you want to be consistent, there are certain movements that are required to achieve this goal.
This all sounds easy enough, but there is one last factor, which in my view, is the critical factor, “the mental game”! Everyone has different emotions but can everyone control their emotions to the level required to play good golf, even when the shots are not perfect…..no. Therefore, this is a factor that I really like to work on along with the technique of the golf swing so the player can achieve success.
In my view, there are certain ways to learn the game of golf.
Firstly, you must see what your swing is doing. It is very hard to change a movement in your swing if you are unsure what you are doing in the first place.
Secondly, understand what positions your body and club need to achieve so you can work towards your changes.
Once the above is achieved, you need to feel what the new movements feel like to you. Sometimes they can feel easy to do and other times they will feel extremely difficult. The important point to remember is that when you are working on something new, it takes time to achieve and it can feel very uncomfortable to perform. What is technically correct may not necessarily feel comfortable at the start. Working hard on the technique will give you the feel and the results you want.Technique is important as it will help you sustain a level of consistent golf for the long term.
Playing a good round once in a blue moon is called a fluke. Which would you prefer?
